It might be a lot like yours (or not at all)

my boss's words of inspiration:

In beauty and the biz on July 18, 2007 at 12:14 pm

my boss, Raymond Roker, is the president and publisher of URB Magazine.

i have recently been promoted to having the additional role of Project Manager (in addition to Opeartions Manager) of the company and it’s initiatives. this means being the point-person on specific creative projects, and a general management of the status of all projects…something i’m very excited about. anything that allows me to learn entrepreneurial skills thrills the shyt outta me.so i recently had pitched a creative projects ideas to the team, and they actually were feelin em! this was a first to me because i have previously been very shy and unsure of my “ideas”. but i guess i just hadn’t found the right arena to think of ideas for!

after i had pitched these, and heard they were a go, i was excited to project manage them and be involved with our brand in this new way! but in trying to work with people in the office to get what i needed to take next steps, i felt a wall go up. i had asked my boss if i was in the wrong for wanting to manage the project ideas i had come up with, or if i was stepping on toes in trying to take next steps to get things movin! it took him awhile to respond, so i was a bit miffed for a awhile…unsure of what the lack of response meant.

then, i got a reply to my email this morning. what he said to me in inspiring, and is an example of a great entrepreneurial spirit…probably exactly the kind of spirit that ignited his company 15yrs ago, and is feuling it down its new path right now.

this is advice for anyone who wants to follow their dreams, start something new, and get what they want:

“full steam ahead. do not take no for an answer, and be prepared to kick open some doors. this needs to be an organization that lives from entrepreneurial action. learn what you need to make the project happen and what it takes technically, and push onward. this isn’t a time to be reasonable. be UNREASONABLE.”

    that’s wonderful!!

and I feel ya on the lack of response thing. it almost always gives me a little bit of self-doubt like… did I say something ridiculous?? good advice he gives though. 🙂
